Artist's Comments

This is the final drawing. With the help and advice of several friends, namely, Robert - straycat27 :iconstraycat27: who is a fantastic artist. I blurred the background to add some depth and bring the portrait forward, added a bit of change to how the path meanders. I also think it adds a bit of 'fantasy' and 'dream-like' feel to it... In actuality, I DID dream up of the background, because I made it up!!lol!

Ref photo for boy : [link]

This drawing is dedicated to my son who loves transformers, the outdoors, trucks and soft toys. It's a drawing to celebrate his youth.

Symbolism:-

Boy (my son) and toys (his favorite toys) - youth, very clear, simply defined and pure life (Initially I'd put in a broken wheel, but it indicated too much neglect, which doesn't really work for how I perceive my son)

Gate - portal to adulthood

Path - It's a path to the unknown future.

Aspen and mountain - Home here in Colorado.

This drawing is on 19 3/4" X 25 1/2" Canson Colorline paper in 'Snow'.
Graphite 2mm clutch in 2H, H, HB for the fence and grass.
Freehand.

Thanks for viewing...

Dina.

Ps- There's a transformer (Bumblebee) hidden in the drawing... Here's a link to the Transformer ref to help you see it...

Yes, I can see what a difference the changes make, well done. It does draw the eye more to his face now, which should be the focus. Fabulous!

I'm really flattered to be mentioned by someone as good as you.
Seeing for work makes me want to do graphite again.

Perhaps...in exchange for my help....
you can tell me where the transformer is?
Instead of the bumblebee...I'm seeing King Kong.:giggle:
