Accepted in a Juried Art Exhibition

Tue Sep 15, 2009, 8:04 PM
It's been almost a year since I wrote in my journal. I think it's time I share some good news with everyone. All 3 of my acrylic art works got accepted for a show in the City of Lone Tree, near Denver, CO. I'm ecstatic!

I will post the paintings after the show's over.

This year's been truly an educational year for me. Since May 2009, I've been honing my skills in other mediums such as oil and acrylic. But, not just learning how to use them. Basically how to create artwork with good design, color and concept. It's a whole new world compared to my detailed drawings...

To all of you who visited my page and faved my works, I am honored. :rose:

Thanks for reading.

Thanks Robert!

I'm really excited to be in this show. It's my first juried entry for paintings here in the US. I'll take photos and post them here once the show's over. My goal for this year was to enter a show, by golly - I made it. Gotta start somewhere, right?

How have you been doing, my friend? What's your latest news?

Have you been taking workshops?
I'm jealous now....

I'm starting to paint in pastel...4-5 pieces so far.
I'm still struggling what subjects to paint.
It's good that I get to know some pastel artists here on DA to give me pointers.

I haven't been taking workshops. It's pretty much experimenting and group critique sessions with other artist. I've learned so much from this group.

You know, Robert, your eye for color is excellent! Pastels equals color to me!! Glad to hear that you're painting in pastels. Why would you be struggling with subjects, though? You can paint anything!!
There's a pastel artist on DA that I watch. His id is astarvinartist. He's pretty good with animals.

Ok, gotta run!

In my opinion - group critique sessions are much more useful than workshops.
I hope I can find something like that in our area.

Hahaha...and I'm beginning to think that I'm lousy in mixing colors - that's probably why I chose pastel to be my medium.
But it's hard when you don't have the color you need.

I wanted to have a theme in my painting and not some random subjects.
Since I don't have a particular painting style...
I want people to recognize my work through the subject.

I'd check the local art center/ learning facility. If you join as a member, you would eventually find the right people to start group critique sessions. Mine just happened by chance, right after a workshop, and we found out that we clicked.

In pastels, don't you mix the colors and make the colors that you need? You're NOT lousy at mixing colors.

I understand your wanting a theme. I've found several styles depending on what medium I use, so no matter what subject I choose, the work would still kinda look like my work.

Dina- So good to see you are still making your art! Congrats on the show and I look forward to seeing your work! Are you still as busy as ever...baking, kids, athlete, artist, what else did I leave out?
:iconrtyson:
Fantastic news Dina! to have all 3 accepted in a relatively new medium to you is wonderful, well done you :D

Oh well, I'll take a look. Perhaps I'm just being too lazy.

You can't mix colors in pastel, you can only blend them on the surface.
Unless i use PanPastels - I think.

Now I'm REALLY jealous.
